The Washington Examiner reports that Whole Foods has agreed to be one of the anchors in the Cafritz property's planned development on Route 1 in Riverdale Park. The grocery would be located within a 36-acre 'village' of shops, residences and a token 5-acre park on the east side of Route 1 (Baltimore Avenue), opposite where Queens Chapel Road meets the Avenue. (Map of the Cafritz property) Probably the soonest it could be completed would be the fall of 2014.
It's not a done deal: the residents of University Park are unhappy about the potential for congestion and are resisting. They had the money and influence to get Queens Chapel Road converted from a public thoroughfare into their own private closed off boulevard, so they might get this project stopped. We don't need to go into panic-mode about Glut quite yet.
